#540126 | ND, .800 silver sugar bowl by Simon Rosenau (1839-1920) in Hanau heavy Rococo style, depicting an artist painting a portrait of a house wife on one side and mother reading a book to a daughter on the other. Marked with typical 4 marks: crowned SR mark, 800 and two effaced (city marks). In 1890s Simon's son Hermann Simon Rosenau (1861-1943) took charge of the company, but retired in 1932. He escaped from Germany to Paris, but in October of 1943 was deported to Auschwitz, where he perished. About ∅ 90mm, 140mm at handles x 85 mm on the top, 70mm tall and weighs 116 grams. Warn from use, but in very good condition otherwise. A Judaica item.
